This years The Rifles care for casualties Tandem was navigated yet again by Andy and powered by Bart. A big well done to them both £600.50 for this very worthwhile cause. Thanks to all who chose to sponsor the boys in their endeavour to help raise moneys to care for our fallen and wounded soldiers and their families.

Grade day Sunday 20th Oct 2011

Well look at you lot!  Like the Cats that got the cream.  A fine grade the standards were as we would expect high, But considering that we now have a further 7 first Kyu,s in training for Black Belt this is to be expected.  But well done anyway.

The Rifles Care for Casusalitys

The Rifles Care for Casusalitys

Mura Martial Arts club played host to Sjt Whyte and Rifleman Hamilton of the Rifles Support team on Thursday 12th Aug.
The club passed over a cheque to the sum of £500 to the Rifles Care for Causality’s fund. This fund has been set up to help care for the causalities caused to the Rifles by the world wide conflict zones it has had to operate in over the last years. Mura Martial Arts club has adopted this worth while cause as part of its ongoing Help for Heroes campaign. The club has raised £900 for this worthy cause over the last 8 months and hopes to emulate last year’s £1000 mark. This has been achieved with the help of the Selby Lions/Selby Times bike ride Montgomery’s Hairdressing salon in Thorp Willoughby which is still passing out the Help for Heroes wrist bands for a small donation to the cause and other donations.
The Rifles are our local regiment and can trace their roots back to Pontefract barracks and The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, then in 1968 a name change to The 2nd Bn Light Infantry and recently The Rifles. One older member of the club served in both the 1st Bn K.O.Y.L.I. and 2 L I. And also 5 L.I. so was pleased to talk about old times. Unfortunately nether Sjt Whyte or Rifleman Hamilton was born then so the conversation was a little one sided.
So the club and all its members wish the Rifles (Swift and Bold) all the best and thank them for all they do on our behalf for Yorkshire and the country and thinking of the KOYLI motto “CEDE NULLIS” Yield to None and keep up the good work the club and Selby wish you well.
